The Hostel Santa Teresa is a youth hostel set in the charming neighborhood of Santa Teresa, Rio de Janeiro, just 5 min. away from Lapa with it's nightlife and a 4 min. walk to Largo dos Guimarães, the meeting point of Santa Teresa, with it's charming bars, a cinema, book shop and live music.
The Hostel Santa Teresa traditionally accommodates volunteers who come to Rio de Janeiro for a couple of weeks to participate in social projects in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro - the hostel now opens its doors also to tourists and backpackers who want to stay in one of Rio's most charming places.
The Hostel Santa Teresa accommodates up to 20 people - a larger dormitory is available as well as 4 private rooms, all double rooms with shared bathroom. Community areas add sociability to the place: a generous living room and lounge with couches, TV and table for dinner, invites to relax, make friends or have dinner with other guests. An open air gust kitchen on the upper terrace is also a perfect place for the evenings, with a gorgious view over the city, and tropical plants in our garden.
Hostel Santa Teresa is very easy to reach - all bus lines from downtown - Lapa to Santa Teresa - bus 214 and 206 sopt directly in front of our door. And, of course, the famous bonde tramway also stops in front of the door. Have an incredible trip with the bonde to downtown, with a ride on top of the Arcos da Lapa, Arches from an ancient aquaeduct from the 16th century, with gorgious views of downtown and the Sugar Loaf.
Going up the hill of Santa Teresa with the bonde, will bring you first to curvelo, where you can listen to samba groups, then to Largo dos Guimarães, the cantrela square of Santa Teresa, with live music, a cinema, restaurants, bars and an internet café. One line of the bonde will take you to Largo das Neves, with a colonial church and very charming bars to hang out like "Santa Saideira" (that means the one for the road). The other line of the tram will take you further on Rua Almirante Alexandrino to colonial mansions, and to thr rainforest, near to Corcovado.
